At the Centre for Predictive Processing in Sport, we translate predictive processing theory and evidence for use in sporting contexts.

In undertaking this endeavour, we aim to create and refine a predictive processing framework for sports, which accounts for the person’s inner workings (cognitions, beliefs, and emotions), external sporting environment, and their actions and perceptions.

What we do:

How players, coaches, referees, and other stakeholders operate and obtain optimal outcomes in dynamic sporting environments is a “wicked problem” that is difficult to solve. Promisingly, predictive processing provides a relatively simple yet explanatory framework to understand how people come to grips with their sporting niche.

If we can better understand the underlying processes by which people operate in the sporting environment, we can then establish appropriate principles to help people learn, develop, engage, and ultimately attain optimal outcomes.
