Centre for Predictive Processing in Sports
For those who seek to understand how performers function and optimise outcomes in dynamic sporting environments.
What we do:
The Centre for Predictive Processing in Sport is an applied research institute that aims to translate predictive processing theory and evidence for use in sporting contexts. In undertaking this endeavour, our goal is to create, test, and refine a:
Predictive Processing Framework for Sports
Which seeks to explain how the perfomer’s inner workings (cognitions, beliefs, and emotions), external sporting environment, and action-perception cycles operate to influence performance outcomes.
Predictive Processing Model for Sports Coaching
Which seeks to explain how coaches can leverage predictive processing principles to help enhance and develop athlete (and team) performance skills, and foster improved coaching practices.
Why we do it:
How players, coaches, referees, and other stakeholders operate (and obtain optimal outcomes) in dynamic sporting environments is a “wicked problem” that is difficult to solve. Fortunately, we like tackling wicked problems, and predictive processing provides an explanatory framework for understanding sports performance, skill development, and coaching practice.
Working with us:
The Centre for Predictive Processing in Sports offers multiple ways to interact and engage with our services:
Research
Working with organisations, teams, and coaches to understand and leverage the predictive brain.
Consultancy
Delivering advice, workshops, and professional develeopment sessions to organisations, teams, and coaches.
Mentorship
Providing regular, one-on-one sessions to support the integration of predictive processing principles.
If we can better understand the underlying processes by which performers operate in the sporting environment, we can then create specific principles and protocols to help performers learn, engage, develop, and ultimately attain optimal outcomes in the performance space.
